🌿 Epiphyllum ‘Curly Sue’ (may or may not have flowers at the time of postage or pick up)
Common Name: Curly Orchid Cactus, Curly Sue Epiphyllum
Origin: Hybrid, derived from tropical rainforest cacti native to Central and South America
Epiphyllum ‘Curly Sue’ is a mesmerizing epiphytic cactus known for its dramatically curled, ruffled foliage that resembles green ribbons or curly hair. The sculptural stems grow in a cascading form, making it a stunning choice for hanging baskets or high shelves.
Though it’s grown mainly for its unique texture, under the right conditions, ‘Curly Sue’ can reward you with large, fragrant flowers—usually in shades of pink or white—that bloom at night and fade by morning.
It’s easy to care for and brings bold personality to indoor spaces.
🌱 Care Tips:
Light:
Thrives in bright, indirect light. A few hours of morning sun is fine, but protect from strong afternoon sun. Can tolerate lower light but may grow more slowly.
Water:
Water when the top 3–5 cm (1–2 inches) of soil feels dry. Avoid overwatering—like many epiphytic cacti, it prefers to dry out a bit between waterings.
Humidity:
Enjoys moderate to high humidity but adapts well to normal indoor levels. Misting occasionally or placing near other plants can help.
Temperature:
Ideal range is 18°C to 27°C (65°F to 80°F). Protect from frost and temperatures below 10°C (50°F).
Soil:
Use a chunky, well-draining mix, such as an orchid or cactus blend with bark, perlite, and peat or coco coir.
Fertiliser:
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced, diluted liquid fertiliser. Stop feeding in winter.
Pet Friendly:
✅ Yes – Epiphyllum ‘Curly Sue’ is considered non-toxic to pets, making it a safe and stylish option for homes with cats and dogs.
